Description
Weaving Workshop: The workshops will explore weaving in all forms. Using an in-house design of a table loom, participants will have the opportunity to practice basic weaving techniques and create a small collection of samples. The workshops will also introduce tapestry weaving techniques and fibre art.
Material Exploration: During the event, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with various fibers and natural dyes. Using our knowledge of locally sourced natural dyes, participants will be able to observe and sample a variety of colours using linen, cotton, and silk textiles.
Traditional Processes: The workshops explore storytelling within craft, presenting traditional patterns, motifs and symbols that narrate a story or reveal a message. The activity will encourage the participants to create their own patterns or symbols and intergrade them within their work.
This activity has been supported by the World Crafts Council Europe and the Creative Europe Programme.

A New Palette
Since the beginning of this year we have been researching, collecting and planning our experiments with natural colours. At last, during the summer months we had the time and the space to try out recipes and produce our first colour palettes. All experiments will be displayed in our studio & shop throughout December.
Weaving Workshop for children
Threading Stores is proud to present the first hands-on workshop for children. Join us for a creative journey, during which we will be travelling to the magical world of textiles, exploring symbols and materials from all over the world. In collaboration with Rebecca Katsaris, we have created a workshop series specially designed for children, filled with stories, textures and colours.
Our first story begins in Ghana, where one can find the intricate Kente cloth. Kente textiles are made from cotton fibers and are handwoven in elongated strips of cloth.
Historically the fabric was worn by royalty and found in several ethnic groups such as the Ashanti and Ewe. According to the legend a spider weaver held the secret to the wondrous geometric Kente designs trapped within its silk. When two local weavers discover the beauty of her web, the story awaits to be unraveled...
The workshop takes place in our design studio where children can experience the inner workings of a workspace. Facilitated by educator Rebecca Katsaris and textile designer Teresa Georgallis.
Spring Workshops 2022
In May we completed our first weaving workshops. A big thank you to everyone who participated! It was a fantastic beginning to our workshop series that continues next month. The workshops will continue in autumn - dates to be announced in the upcoming weeks.
A Side (tables) Project 2.0
17th & 18th of December 2021
The first collaboration presents work by designer Thalis Nicolaou, exhibiting A SIDE (TABLES) PROJECT 2.0, a deep dive into joinery and mould making. The exhibition will present the designers making process and feature his latest work.
New Beginning
Threading Stories is opening once again, celebrating craft, processes and materials. This beginning marks the launch of a new chapter for our space, with new projects and collaborations. The space will be permanently open to the public as a shop and an educational space, co-hosting a design studio and workshop dedicated to material exploration, design development and textiles.
Second Exhibition
Presenting the second round of the exhibition Threading Stories. The new material features artefacts from Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia traveling from the Andes to the Amazon rainforest.
The collection presents a variety of processes mixing traditional and modern techniques and materials. Objects were chosen for their narrative, embedded symbolism, quality and level of creativity.
The exhibition aims to generate interest, raise awareness and open discussions on cultural identity, the value of craftsmanship and the importance of responsible investment with a social cause at its core. Threading Stories is a platform that celebrates creative knowledge exchange and promotes a shift towards a sustainable future for traditional practices.
First Exhibition
December 2020
Threading stories presents the first exhibition series launching Saturday 12.12.2020 at the newly open design store/studio located at 103, Trikoupi Street, Old Town, Nicosia.
Our first research project presents and promotes artisans, craftsmanship and cultural heritage of the Andes, Amazon Region, the Pacific and Caribbean Coast. This journey was a journey of discovery and curiosity, investigating ancestral creative practices in textiles, millinery, ceramics and metalwork.
Latin America is a distinct territory where different cultures and ethnicities have been blending together for centuries. The region’s extraordinary biodiverse ecosystems provide a rich ongoing source of primary materials used in countless ways throughout the history. The different nationalities and minority cultures of the area, have echoed their surroundings though skilful artefacts and carefully crafted objects.
Sed Conference
October 2019 - Limassol, Cyprus
Threading Stories was firstly presented at the Socially Engaged Design Conference held at the Cyprus University of Technology. A two-day event that discussed how researchers and practitioners propose and implement solutions to tackle contemporary societal issues. We presented a small selection of artisan stories which encouraged discussion on cultural identity, the value of craftsmanship and the importance of responsible investment with a social impact.
