Title → Rammed Earth Clay Plaster

Date → 2025 - 2026

Place → Skarinou, Cyprus

Client → Dómes Sergiou winery

Subject → Using local soil as the primary medium, this material exploration reimagines traditional earth building for the interior of Domes Sergiou Winery in Skarinou. The bespoke rammed earth clay plaster translates regional geological strata into a layered, tactile experience, transforming raw heritage into contemporary architectural form.

The tactile quality of an interior often speaks louder than its form. In the main tasting space, material culture takes center stage through a bespoke, layered rammed earth plaster finish created by Threading Stories and Ophi studio.

Emerging from rigorous research into raw earth and local geology, the installation translates regional strata into an immersive architectural surface. The resulting texture brings a quiet, organic presence to the space converting the raw geology of Skarinou into an interior narrative that directly mirrors the winery’s devotion to terroir.

This integration of raw clay into contemporary winemaking architecture highlights how traditional material techniques continue to evolve. By elevating humble local soil into a refined surface finish, the design frames wine culture not merely as a sensory craft, but as a living bridge between place, human skill, and spatial design.
