This collection grows out of a close, hands-on relationship with the land. The clay is gathered directly from its place of origin and worked with care and patience, shaped by the natural forces that formed it over time. From the outset, the process is guided by observation rather than control, allowing the material’s own qualities to lead the way.
The pieces take shape through a restrained approach, giving space for the clay to speak for itself. Their surfaces carry textures that recall the terrain they come from, gradually revealing the inner colour of the wild clay through firing and touch. Each object becomes a quiet record of making, holding traces of landscape, time, and human gesture.
Working with wild clay is also an act of commitment to locality. The material is not standardised or corrected; variations in texture, mineral content, and colour are preserved as part of the work. These differences are embraced as evidence of origin, making each piece slightly distinct while remaining part of a coherent body of work.
Within the wider project, this series functions as an exploration of material honesty and place-based making. The objects are not representations of the landscape but extensions of it formed through a process that connects extraction, making, and firing into a single continuum.
Together, they reflect an ongoing practice centred on listening, material awareness, and the slow translation of earth into form.
